My name is John Moroney, I’m the General Manager at Jones Services. And I’m here today to talk about the myths around heat pumps.
Why do you want to know about the myths around heat pumps? Because these myths may be holding you back from installing a high efficiency heat pump system that will cost you less to use and maintain, and save you money while lowering your carbon footprint, and having a system in your home that doesn’t create bad smells and odors from burning gas and propane.
Myth number one is they don’t work in the cold climates, they are only for the south. They don’t work here. 10, 20 years ago, that wasn’t a myth, that was truthful. But today, the technology is such that it allows us to install heat pumps that work year-round and can provide heating in your home on the coldest days.
Myth number two is that heat pumps create their own heat. They don’t. They are able to find heat outside in the air, even on the coldest days, and the heat they’re able to find outside is able to keep your home nice and warm on the inside.
Myth number three is that your existing technology, your furnaces and your boilers, are even more efficient. That’s not the case. These high efficiency mini-split systems, heat pump systems operate much more efficiently than your current system. If your current system is either propane or oil fueled, you’ll receive amazing cost savings immediately. And even if your system is natural gas, there won’t be any huge savings. But as the cost of natural fuel goes up, as a result of fracking regulation, or just the cost of getting it to your home, the cost of natural gas one day will be more expensive. The high efficiency heat pumps are the most efficient systems on the market today.
Myth number four is heat pumps don’t work with other heating systems. This is not true in most cases as well. There’s integrated heat controlling technology that will allow us to operate your high efficiency heat pump system for most of the year. And on the very coldest days where the efficiency is actually greater to use your existing furnace, or your existing boiler, the technology will allow such that it will switch over and use the more efficient system to heat your home.
How can you learn more about these high efficiency systems now that you know the facts? The best way is to have one of our high efficiency heat pump experts come to your home, size the equipment, take measurements, find out your specific needs, find out if there’s an interest in integrating with any of your existing systems, and let you know what the best solutions are for you.
