My name is John Moroney. I’m the general manager of Jones Services and the founder of Jones Services University. I’m here today to talk to you about Jones Services University. So why did we found Jones Services University? Well, there is a shortage of men and women in the trades, and it’s getting worse. 

As the baby boomers are retiring, there’s no one going into the trade schools or they’re coming in insufficient numbers. And it’s creating a national shortage of quality experienced tradespeople. So Jones Services University was born out of the need to grow our own, to develop and train our own service professionals. Why Jones Services University? Well, people are going into trade schools and they’re spending 20, 30, $40,000 just so that they can come to work at companies like Jones Services. Well, why not give them a scholarship and let them learn here for free?

What is Jones Services University? Jones Services University is the fancy name that we’re calling our apprenticeship program. And we’re incorporating state-of-the-art 3D virtual reality simulations of how to repair a furnace, a boiler, an air conditioning system, a plumbing system, an electrical system so that you’re learning as if you are in the real world. Traditionally apprentices were bought on and they would ride in a truck. And during an eight hour day, they would spend most of the time riding to the customer’s homes, walking around, seeing the electrician. Or the plumber or the HVAC technician, diagnose the problem, present the solutions to the customers, ordering parts, moving onto the next call, or actually staying and doing the work.

Staying and doing the work was only a small percentage of time. In virtual reality land, they’re spending all of their time with simulated hands-on-experiences. And they’re able to do this at their convenience. They can work an eight hour day, they can go home and then they can go to school. They’re not having to go to school all day long and put themselves into debt until they start their career. They’re able to start their career immediately. Jones Services University is not just the virtual reality training, it’s also the experience of working in the field next to that experienced HVAC service technician, plumber and an electrician who is only an experienced tradesperson. They’re also your mentor.

And we have a mentorship program that incentivizes and excites them to want to develop you. And what else is Jones Services University? We have strategic partners all over the United States, and we send you to those centers of excellence where you’re involved in immersed training to further accelerate your training.
