4 Advantages of a Ductless Mini-Split System

Ductless mini-split systems are a great option for those looking to expand their heating and cooling capabilities, but don’t want to break the bank by installing a comprehensive duct system throughout their home. These systems work like regular air-source heat pumps, transferring atmospheric hear from outdoor air and pulling it inside for heating in winter or absorbing indoor heat and pushing it outside for cooling in summer. Ductless mini-split systems enjoy a host of advantages over other HVAC options. Here is a list of four of them to help you decide if a ductless mini-split is right for you and your home.

1. No ductwork. This system uses air handlers (up to four in a large system), which are connected to an outdoor unit that contains the compressor and the condenser. The air handlers will be installed in the wall, ceiling or floor of the rooms you wanted heated or cooled. The lack of ductwork makes this system a cost effective alternative to more expensive systems that require the installation and maintenance of an extensive duct system.
2. Energy Efficiency: Ductless mini-split systems are highly energy efficient. The hot or cool air being delivered into your home is gained via energy transfer, rather than a fuel burning combustion process, ductless mini-split systems can significantly reduce your energy bill. Also, without ductwork these systems have a lower probability of leakage. In traditional HVAC systems, the more ducts you have, the harder the system has to work to heat or cool your home while compensating for the leakage of conditioned air.

4. Easy Installation: Ductless mini-split systems require minimal installation. It only needs a three-inch hole for the conduit to the outdoor components to the air handlers inside your home. Also, unlike a room A/C, which sits in an open window, a ductless mini-split system presents no such security concerns.
