How can you tell when you need boiler replacement?
If your home is heated by a boiler, that means that you are probably using radiant heat for your home. Radiant heat means that heat is transferred via surfaces as opposed to being distributed through ventilation (i.e. convective heating through a forced air furnace): your boiler heats water and sends it through your pipes, and when the water arrives at the radiators it heats the room through those units.
Radiant heat has several advantages over convective heating, meaning that boilers have many advantages over furnaces. Your Middletown, NY home might receive better heating than a home with a furnace when your boiler is working properly simply because hot air rises, which means that convection heating doesn’t warm larger rooms quite as well!
But, like all things, boilers don’t last forever. The average life expectancy of a traditional gas boiler is between 10 and 15 years, and a quality boiler can last upwards of 20 — but if you’ve had the same machine for two decades, you’re going to want to look into a replacement. In fact, you may want to consider installing a higher efficiency boiler unit before then…particularly if you notice any of the following signs:
- Insufficient Heating in Your Home
- Temperature Not Matching the Pre-Set on Your Thermostat
- Uneven Heating Between Rooms
- Higher than Average Heating Energy Bills
All of the above could be signs that your boiler is having problems and needs to be replaced.
